Second Interview, Could It Be?

I got a call back from last week's interview. They want me to come in for a second interview on Wednesday. Could be a good sign.

Heard the MidWest got a lot of snow. Here in London, we don't even wear winter hats and winter coats are an option. It rains a lot and gets dark at like 3 p.m. Well, ok. More like 4 p.m. I was thinking that the no snow thing is pretty nice since I have to walk a half mile uphill and back (down hill this time) everytime I go to the grocery store. I should rephrase: I get to walk a half mile uphill and back to the grocery store. I like walking, even in the rain. Sometimes especially in the rain.

Saw Stranger than Fiction this weekend, which every UIC student and Chicagoan should see. I was lucky enough to see it in London with a fellow Flame, Mendy. We nudged eachother throughout the movie and guessed at exactly where the actors were standing.

Any of the Taylor Street Crew remember what year it was that the crew was in our 'hood? I seem to think it was when I was living with you, Colin. It was like two or three years ago in the summer for just a few days. I remember seeing the trailors on a walk sometime.

It was filmed in Lincoln Hall or Douglas Hall and has extensive shots of the campus. Dustin Hoffman plays an English Lit Prof, who makes one of the Hall's classrooms an office filled with books and even has a couch and two chairs. That last bit is funny if you're a UIC alumn, and if you're like me, a UIC English major, who knows that no English professor could fit a living room set in their office. You yourself probably remember sitting in that very room on the third floor and recognizing how unglamourous the architecture was.

The script has some flashes of brilliance dealing with some weighty literary critism (again fun for UIC English Majors), followed by a disappointing ending in which they try to make everything neat and tidy in the last 15 minutes. Some pretty good performances by Emma Thompson and Will Ferrell. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Tony Hale (Arrested Development's Buster) are in it too. I'll probably (definitely) buy the DVD.
