"Taco" or "Putting on the Ritz"
I don't believe in fate or God, so as much as I want to say something about said entity or astral force smiling down on us today, I can't... because that would make me a hypocrite. But Megan and I did have quite a windfall this evening.
It all started on Monday, a holiday here in the UK. Megan and I were out and about on our local high street (think main street) grabbing some sun and coffee. As we walked up from the park to the Movie theater to catch Transformers (groan!) Megan stopped dead in her tracks.
"Oh. My. God. Do you see that?"
I started scanning the street with my poorly developed male sense of finding things, and say nothing. I faked like I knew with a, "heh, yeah," as I scrambled to find something that would cause Megan to stop the way she did. My response wasn't appropriate enough and she was on to me. Then I spotted a 3-4 year old kid, cute as you can make 'em, pushing a giant yellow-on-wheels mop bucket out the door of a local shop into heavy pedestrian traffic. "Ha! That's pretty dang cute," I said, sure that I had figured out the mystery.
Megan's face said, "fool, what's the matter with you?" Her mouth said, "That kid IS cute, but look at the place he came out of!"
"Oh. My. God."
It was a Mexican joint... in London... on our freaking doorstep! Mexican restaurants are a rare sight here. And in case our plea for visitors to bring us salsa verde wasn't a big enough clue, we miss it.
We walked in, met the owner and found out when they opened (which was today... like today as in when I posted this, not "today" when we talked to the dude). We quizzed him on the menu, learned a bit about the trials of starting a new business and shared our thoughts on all things burrito. He's an American and a really nice guy. We also met his British business partner. Both of them were really friendly and they gave us the first printed menu (collectors item!) that didn't even have the prices on it yet. We said we'd be back for the opening.
Fast forward to today, the opening. The food was great, the prices were great, and we met three new, fun Americans while we ate. Bryan and Stacey (hope I spelled that right) live in our neighborhood and are engaged. Megan and I were thinking we could take a guiding hand with them and teach them the ways of married life. We were also thinking we could make up a whole fake scenario of what married life is really like and try and convince them it was true. Only time will tell which we pick. And by time, I mean no one! HHAhaahahaaahahaaa!
The other person we met was Kristain. She has a food blog and will be a valuable asset for finding the most delicious things to eat in this big dirty town. She's also quite nice and fun to talk to.
It was a great time. Who would have ever thought that it would be Mexico that unites Americans in London? All I'm saying is you don't get that kind of camaraderie in a hamburger joint.

I didn't know you lack belief in God and/or fate! Cue the NBC music: THE MORE YOU KNOW.
Something mildly Freudian here, me thinks.
What a world...!???
