Exaggerate Until It's True

There are six different levels of exaggeration.

  1. No Exaggeration - The Joe-Friday-facts.
  2. Slight Exaggeration - This is used mostly to lie about an event to make the exaggerator look better than they should.
  3. Slight Over-Exaggeration - The teller is attempting a Slight Exaggeration, but is uncouth about it, and they botch the proportions.  The result is an attempt to grow the reputation of the teller, but the obviosness of the lie induces the opposite reaction.
  4. Over-Exaggeration - To inflate the aspects of a story or tale to proportions so large that the listener knows they are not to take them as fact.  This can be used as a comedic or literary device, and is generally considered not a dickish thing to do.  Many consider this term to be redundant, but those people don't know about this scale.
  5. Extreme Over-Exaggeration - The overuse of #4, such that it makes the listener want to punch the teller for being a jackass.
  6. Unwittingly True - The truth is stretched so far that the a paradox occurs and the statement is actually true again.

Previously I thought this scale only went to five, but having a baby provided proof of level six's existence.  Here it is, proof by example.  The statement "A girl kicked Marty's ass" is our control statement.

  1. A girl kicked Marty's ass.  (Depending on the girl this could be true.)
  2. A college freshmen kicked Marty's ass.
  3. This one college freshman kicked Marty's ass so many times that he developed a fear of women.
  4. A five year old girl kicked Marty's ass.
  5. A five year old girl just looked at Marty and made him diarrhea his pants in front of everyone in the world!
  6. A five day old girl kicked Marty's ass.
Having a kid is hard, but worth it.  And now, what you've all been waiting for... the pics!

Thanks to all 4 grandparents Aunt Allison and Colin and Kristin (honorary Aunt and Uncle) for visiting our newly expanded family.

The first week is so challenging! Wonderful, but def hard. Remember that every week will be easier than the last. It's incremental, but it's really true. And by week 6 it will feel like you've turned a corner. Plus at that time you're only a week or two away from SMILES! It's all great, even the hard parts, as you already know. So happy for you guys!
